Good Form Running: What Is It and Is it for Me?

Good Form Running: What Is It and Is it for Me?

Running is a natural human activity that begins, without instruction, when we are knee high. So why do we have to learn how to run now?

When we are small, we run in a natural way. We run, literally, the way were were "born to run." We run because we can, because it is fun. Over the years, our running can change to adapt to surfaces, shoes, size, injury or even fear. For some, running becomes a chore, it stops being fun and eventually, it can stop altogether. Good Form Running is designed to help those people get back to a natural, more efficient way of running, to help reduce the risk of injury, increase efficiency, and hopefully, make it more fun.

Buy introducing four simple concepts: Posture, Mid-Foot, Cadence and Lean, Good Form Running helps participants re-think their form and explore ways to improve efficiency. While the four concepts are fairly basic, they won't change your form overnight, that will take time and practice. It is best to get your head around one concept at a time and let your body follow. GFR also covers appropriate footwear and touches on injury prevention and running trends.

If you are already happy with your running, are uninjured and don't want to mess with a good thing, GFR may not be for you. But if you are struggling with chronic injury, stagnation in your running or just want to learn something new, GFR is worth the time.

GFR is held twice per month at NRC. Cost is $10, which is donated to local youth running organizations. To register, follow the link to our calendar:
