New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Shoe Review

Version 2 of the FuelCell Rebel is one of the most awaited running shoes of the year. The FuelCell foam is energy efficient and extremely bouncy making the Rebel a great option for quicker training runs, intense workouts, or if you just need an extra bounce in your daily activities. 

The Rebel v2 is designed to be a lightweight running shoe that can handle long miles, yet light and fast enough for race day. The FuelCell foam is also in New Balance's fastest carbon-plated racing shoe options, but you won’t find that carbon plate in the Rebel, making it more trainable for everyday use. The higher amount of cushioning is great shock absorption, while still staying considerably lightweight. 

The Rebel v2 comes with a “lateral wing,” or extra flare of material on the outside of the shoes, designed to give additional support in high contact areas. It will also help to propel your foot forward and encourage a more natural gait cycle. The shoe packs a very light and fast punch, similar to many of the top race day carbon-plated models, without the high ticket price. You’ll get a similar lightweight, responsive experience of a race day shoe in a more manageable option for everyday training runs. 

Changes come first in the foam. First, there is more of that bouncy FuelCell foam in version 2, without adding extra weight. Next, you’ll find another small change in the outsole with a more durable rubber material that provides better grip and cutting down on excess weight.

Finally the last change of the shoe comes in the upper with a newly engineered lightweight mesh design. While it is very thin, it is engineered and coated in a breathable, blended material to help the shoe withstand the miles.
